Hello Kris, I just discovered your blog. I am not very hi-tech--so I am never sure that my message got through. I have asked after you many times in the last decades whenever it seemed someone might know where you were--so I am happy to find you.I am fine, living in Long Island just now. My kids--Sylvia and Nick are married and have kids. Praise the Lord, all are well, busy, growing and learning--including me. Would love to hear from you e-mail: eswhiteside@juno.com. Looking forward to reading your book. God bless and love, Elena Whiteside

I totlally agree, one must know how to rightly divide the word of truth. 2tim 2:15.The bible says God is spirit and they that worship him MUST worship him in spirit and truth. If jesus said it than we Must obey it. The scriptures are of know private interpretation 2 Peter 2:10. God knows how to communicate. when we say we cannot understand the bible alike we say God doesnt know how to communicate.let's follow New testament Christianity. Paul said it himself in Gal 3:20&21. If righteousness meaning salvation came by the law then Christ is dead in vain.

I want to correct roopster on witch-hunt history. A former witch and now Christian, I have read and researched a lot on this topic (research is my area of training and fave pastime).
Witch hunts started when a new kind of plague hit France, killling animals, women and the rich in particular. Earlier plagues attacked mostly the poor. It was most likely fungal.
Women, often running farms alone because wars had taken their husbands away, were nervous and when their cows and hens died and their daughters became ill, shouting garbled accusations, pointing, they thought someone who envied them had hurt the girls and animals. Why else were the rich sicker than the poor? Did they blame actual witches? No. There weren't many, and it was tough to know who was one. They blamed those who had signs of dementia.Old age was rare and some people had no awareness that the elderly have mental changes. they thought strange behavior plus reason for envy equalled guilt. It was usually the church that refused to hear the cases, sometimes even physically protecting the accused from crazed mobs. a Papal encyclical forbade prosecuting anyone as a witch or any other supernatural crime, and in the American colonies legislation banning witch hunts came from church leaders as well.

I was involved with a fundamentalist cult for fiteen years before I left twenty years ago. In it, I was sexually, physically, spiritually and psychologically abused. I have been moving on with my life and am very happy now, involved in a non-abusive church. I have just written a book about my experience in the cult and would be willing to speak with anyone who worries their church might be cultic or not. I am also a clinical social worker with a degree from Yale Divinity School so am trained as a counselor as well. I am happy to help if there's something I can do. My blog is called : http://losingtheway.blogspot.com. come visit! (My blog is called Losing the Way because that is the name of my book and the Way was the name of the cult.)

Landover Baptist is a spoof site. It's not a real church or christian. However, they take beliefs of some churches to it's logical conclusion and also incorporate christian history in their spoof (for example, the church at one time hunted down witches and killed them and in early church days, mentally challenged people were believed to be possessed with demons).

I have a question. Is it possible to turn cult like christian groups into the authoritys? I found this one website I thought was good, it was htis forums called Landover Baptist, and they put down other christian religions, and swear out everyone that doesnt agree with what they say. They even told me that Mental Challenged people were the Devils children. It was appalling, they even admitted to actually killing people and hunting them down because they were "witches". I dont know what to do but its disturbing and they are shinging a bad light on the name of Christians everywhere.
